Job Description

Baldwin & Co. in New Orleans, LA is looking for one bookstore volunteer to join our wonderful team. Volunteers are an important part of Baldwin & Co. Bookstore and help us make a difference in the community. We are located on 1030 Elysian Fields Ave. Our ideal candidate is an avid reader, polite, personable, kind-mannered, patient, punctual, and hard-working.

Responsibilities that our volunteer help with include, but not limited to:

Children's Storytime Reader

• Every Saturday read to children of different ages.
• Reading sessions are a minimum of 30 minutes and consist of three to four books alternating with fingerplays, songs, and stretches.
• Share picture books, nursery rhymes or poetry for children and encourage kids to read more.

Book Sorter

• Separate books into appropriate category/genre
• Sorting books in alphabetical order
• Stay current on Baldwin & Co. Bookstore quality guidelines

Shelving Volunteer

• Must be able to work independently
• Prior experience in a library or bookstore preferred
• Must be able to identify various book genres
• Restock shelves
• Help maintain store cleanliness

Customer Service

• Assist customers finding books to buy
• Engage customers in conversations about books
• Assist customers completion of book request form 

Event Assistance

• Help with on and offsite events. Assistance may include flyer distribution, table setup/breakdown, provide potential customers with event information, etc.

Qualifications

• Bookseller or Librarian experience preferred but not required.
