Monday–Friday Summary Little Sandpipers Preschool is a privately owned, rapidly growing early-learning center in Summerville, SC licensed for 58 children. We are seeking a
strong, organized, emotionally mature Preschool Director to lead our school, support our teachers, and build a high-quality, stable program for children ages 2–5.
This is a leadership position for someone who is confident, calm under pressure, excellent with communication, and capable of directing staff professionally. The ideal candidate is someone who loves early childhood, knows how to create a positive work culture, and understands the importance of standards, structure, and consistency.
Position Summary The Preschool Director provides leadership, supervision, and operational oversight of Little Sandpipers Preschool. This includes curriculum oversight, staff management, parent communication, licensing compliance, daily operations, and maintaining a warm, professional, high-quality environment for children and families.
This role
comes with full decision-making authority within daily operations. The owner provides support but does not micromanage. You will be empowered to lead confidently and help build a strong, healthy team.
Duties Key Responsibilities Leadership & Staff Management - Lead, coach, mentor, and support all teachers and assistants
- Maintain a positive, professional work environment
- Conduct observations, evaluations, coaching sessions, and weekly check-ins
- Uphold accountability, professionalism, and center policies
- Manage staffing schedules, breaks, coverage, and ratios
- Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new staff
Curriculum & Classroom Quality - Ensure consistent use of curriculum (Creative Curriculum or similar)
- Support teachers with lesson planning and classroom management
- Maintain high standards for interactions, environment setup, and instruction
- Prepare the center for state, licensing, and ABC Quality audits
Family & Community Relationships - Build positive communication with parents and guardians
- Conduct tours, enrollment meetings, and family events
- Handle parent concerns with professionalism and empathy
Compliance & Center Operations - Maintain compliance with DSS licensing regulations
- Keep accurate records, documentation, and reports
- Oversee health, safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures
- Manage attendance, staff files, incident reports, and operational logs
- Work closely with the owner on budgeting, purchasing, and school improvement initiatives
Requirements ualifications To be considered, applicants must meet the following: Required: - Minimum 2 years of experience as a Preschool Director, Assistant Director, or Curriculum Coordinator
- Have a completed Director's packet (all documents on the Directors checklist) to submit to licensing upon completion of onboarding.
- CDA or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building abilities
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff, uphold professionalism, and enforce policies
- Solid understanding of SC DSS licensing regulations and early childhood best practices
- Experience with lesson planning, classroom management, and curriculum implementation
- Calm, organized, and solution-focused in a fast-paced environment
- Strong conflict-resolution and decision-making skills
- CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain)
- Must meet all DSS requirements, including background check and health screening
- Comfortable with technology (Email, Google Suite, Google Drive, Brightwheel, etc.)
- Reliable Monday–Friday availability (6:30am–6:00pm) with flexibility for occasional after-hours tasks
- Has a laptop to use at the facility
- Willing to step into classrooms when needed to maintain ratios and support the team
Nice To Haves Preferred: - BA or AA in Early Childhood Education or related field
- SC Endeavors Registry placement
- Experience preparing a center for ABC Quality or other QRIS systems
- Knowledge of Creative Curriculum
